What are the real numbers for taxes paid by illegals? It may seem fun for some, to say the illegals in our communities contribute huge amounts in taxes.
The next step is to then compare that collective number to just one person. Donald trump.
Not So Fast
Comparing what several million pay in taxes to the taxes paid by just one person is nothing more than click bait for social media. There is nothing serious about it.
Let’s Look At The Numbers
According to Pew research, it is estimated that of the 11 million illegals in the United States, there are 8 million of unauthorized immigrants working.
CNN reports that nearly half, or approximately 3.4 million, paid social security taxes.
The $13 Billion number cited by some is actually the amount paid to social security by the workers and their employers.
You can estimate that about 50% of that number did not come from the employees check as a payroll deduction, but rather the employers matching portion of FICA.
That means that from the 8 million illegal workers, the government received $6.9 Billion.
That amounts to about $863 per illegal immigrant..
How much Donald Trump pays in personal taxes is not known, but numbers gleaned from a Real estate deal in 2005 estimates he likely pays more than $38 Million a year in personal income taxes.
What ever the real amount is, if you compare the total Trump paid to the amount paid by all illegals, including the 800,000 dreamers, then you also must include what Trump’s employees paid in taxes.
That is an argument you don’t want to have if you don’t like Trump.
CNN had this same question in 2017 so they did some digging. Here is what they found
The bottom line is, illegals are just that, illegal. That does not mean they’re bad people yet some are very bad.
It does mean they broke the law, and need to get it right. The ‘dreamers’ everybody is talking about will end up doing just fine with what ever the final DACA fix ends up to be.
Trump has offered amnesty to nearly 2 million illegals. Compare that to 800,000 people democrats are asking to help.
Things to consider
It is widely known that illegals do not have legal social security numbers. They have ruined the identity of perhaps millions of Americans with phony or pirated social security numbers.
Illegal workers claim the maximum number of defendants when filing a W-9. It’s done to avoid withholding taxes from their paycheck.
Only the payroll taxes of social security and medicare are deducted. It is from these deductions that the government gets any money at all.
Many if not most illegals working in the United States and paying FICA taxes via payroll deductions, do not actually file a tax return. They have no with holding and are not due a refund. It’s easier, and in their mind, safer to just not file a return.
If an American citizen tried that, they could end up with serious legal problems including, in some cases, jail time.
There’s More
There are plenty of studies done to estimate the cost of government benefits paid in favor of illegals.
One of course is education. What is the cost of additional schools and teachers to accommodate those who have broken the law to be here?
The Daily Caller, estimates that each illegal immigrant in the school system cost the government approximately $12,128 per year.
The number ends up being almost $43.8 Billion a year.
Sum it up
The government takes in $6.8 Billion in payroll taxes, but spends more than $43 Billion on education alone.
The question should be, is that fair?
What’s The Solution?
It seems the time has come to finally settle this. Trump has an offer is on the table.
Nearly 2 million illegals get to stay. He wants $25 Billion for border security and the wall. That $25 Billion pays out over 4 or 5 years. If we use five years, that’s $5 Billion a year.
Seems like a steal if it stops an additional 5 or 6 million illegals from crossing the border. Remember, education alone cost Americans $43 Billion a year.
We’ll have to wait and see if the government really wants to solve the problem, or do they just want the issue to campaign on.
If I were a ‘dreamer’ and I knew a deal was on the table to make me legal, I would not want a politician turning it down just to have a campaign issue to run on in the fall.
A president once said, “Elections have consequences.” In 2016 Americans voted to build a wall and settle our immigration problem.
The plan on the table does it, and solves the DACA issue for 1.8 million illegals who otherwise might be deported.
