America’s Last Best Chance Is To Pray

America is in trouble.

Is there anything worse than being labeled a racist?

Since the death of George Floyd at the hands of murderous police officers, the anarchists in America have successfully fanned the flames of hate with violent protests.

Homes have been burned, and dozens killed and injured in the name of George Floyd.

On the heels of an evil pandemic, tens of thousands are now hopelessly locked out of jobs maybe forever, because the businesses that employed them have been burned out. To oppose any of it is to be labeled a racist.

For what?

Certainly not for George Floyd. He was simply a convenient excuse to wreak havoc across the country. The worst form of hatred that has spread to Europe and beyond.

How is it that a handful of terrorists can fuel a hatred destined to take down the nation that has been a beacon of freedom and liberty to the world for nearly two hundred and fifty years? There has never before, been a country where millions have sacrificed so much just to have the opportunity to live here.

It is said that until one has lived in tyranny, the real value of freedom will not be realized.

The events since the brutal killing of George Floyd clearly show that anarchy, not racism is the real cause of violence. There is a cadre of hardcore marxists that have the singular desire to overthrow the worlds oldest, most loved democracy.

No clear headed person believes the killing of one man is cause for the destruction of an entire nation.

In the beginning, race was an easy excuse. The mob followed the leader. Then it moved to eliminating history. Now it is to blot out religion.

Faith is the enemy of evil, and evil is now openly roaming the nation seeking who it can devour.

The question must be asked. How does any of this make the country better? It does not, it is only to change who is in charge and, in a new regime, and how human rights will be dispensed.

That is exactly what is happening.

Who is behind the rage, the destruction, and the killing is not nearly as important as to who can end it.

When the United States of America was founded, it was crystal clear that the providence of God was at work. That has continued for 244 years.

Over those many years, the country has shown its collective desire to do what is right to help others in need, and combat tyranny where it was found. Never for the benefit of the United States, but rather to assure liberty to other freedom loving people.

The country has, at times, lost its way. There have been dark chapters when evil found a place in society. The darkest of days resulted in the death of six hundred thousand citizens. Another has caused the death of multiple millions of unborn children.

There is a goodness in the overwhelming majority of Americans. Sometimes the goodness is blotted out by the ‘shadow of death’.

The country is now at a crossroads. Will that ‘shadow of death’ win out, or will liberty prevail?

Most will choose freedom, but will there be a collective will to stop those favoring anarchy?

The answer is in the hearts of the people. America is a Godly country. For those looking to save her, the best place to look is to God.

Will America remain the beacon of hope to multiply millions here and around the world, or has evil already been dealt the winning hand? Has God lifted his sovereign providential hand from America?

God’s Providence for America is not wishful thinking. It is a dire need. And that need will only come with the fervent and effectual prayers of her people. A crying out to the sovereign God of creation to heal the land.

There is an abundance of history in support of the belief in God’s providence, God desires America to prosper. A simple article such as this can not adequately describe what God has done.

Barry Laudermilk did in his book, And Then They Prayed. He chronicles more than a dozen historical events in America where prayer had a direct impact. The nation was saved, literally, several times by the sovereign hand of God interceding on behalf of America because the people prayed.

One clear example is the true story of a Massachusetts pastor, responding to the call of the Governor to pray.

An armada of ninety six ships were assembling off the coast, preparing to invade. The size of the invading army was sufficient to easily overwhelm a meager militia ready to defend to the death..

On  October 16, 1746, a beautiful clear day, Reverend Thomas Price had his congregation assemble to pray.

Laudermilk writes, “Raise Thy right hand. Scatter the ships of our tormentors and drive them hence.” Prayed the pastor. Laudermilk continues to describe what happened. Reverend Price lifted his head to heaven and prayed loudly that God would protect His people from harm and that He would destroy the invading fleet.

Laudermilk reports what happened. “Suddenly, the sunlight, which only moments earlier had illuminated the sanctuary, disappeared. Outside, the clear skies gave way to ominous clouds that enveloped the church in their dark shadows. At that moment, a tremendous wind slammed into the church, and the windows shook violently as they strained to hold back the tempest. The pounding of heavy rain on the church roof reverberated inside the sanctuary.

“Undaunted by the raging storm outside, Reverend Price continued his prayer. ‘Sink their proud frigites beneath the power of Thy winds.’”

Laudermilk writes further that when Price paused, the church bells rang twice with a strange and uneven tone. As there was no one in the bell tower, Reverend Price took it as a sign from God.

It is reported. Reverend Price raised his hands toward heaven, and with a voice of victory exclaimed, “We hear Thy voice Oh Lord! We hear it! Thy breath is upon the waters of the eastern wind, even upon the deep. Thy bell tolls for the death of our enemies!”

After a long pause of reverence, Price finished. “Thine be the glory Oh Lord, Amen and amen.”

After the prayer and miraculous storm, the truth was learned. The attacking fleet was utterly destroyed. Two admirals, upon seeing the losses, took their own lives. In all, more than 13,000 enemy soldiers were lost. The few ships that survived, retreated home.

The power of prayer by those who believe and trust God is paramount. God has not only told his people to pray, but has shown them what happens when they do.

Non believers will not understand the providence of God. Many believers understand, at least in some form, that God can and will act to save His people.

Many may think that America is beyond redemption. The sins of the nation are too great to expect God’s blessings. Others, while knowing the evil that has been allowed to exist, will also know the final decision should be left to God.

That leaves prayer as the only truly viable option to rescue a nation that is at the brink of destruction.

When Barry McGuire sang his famous chart topping song “Eve of Destruction” in 1965, it was referencing the VietNam war. While the lyrics would have to change, the title has never been more appropriate.

The time has arrived when everyone who believes in, and trusts God, to earnestly pray for His intervention in the affairs of the United States.

There are undoubtedly many patriots considering who they can target, and how best to do it. To take up arms against the enemy in their efforts to save the country is not a solution.

There is however a solution any patriot can be a part of.

God’s sovereign will is the only remedy for the destruction now taking place. God has a plan and America needs to pray. Pray that the plan includes another chance.
