Fiction has been, for as long as I can remember, a sort of hobby, I like the idea of writers creating stories. I’ve read so many stories others have written, I became inspired. One day I thought I would try my hand at it.
I ended up writing a two-hundred-thousand word novel. It took a very long time.
Then I set about to find someone to publish it. Amazon was not far off but had not yet been invented, let alone Kindle. Countless query letters were sent. No takers. One day, a sympathetic agent wrote a short note telling me the book was way too long. Only James Minchner gets a book deal for a novel that big.
So I spent more time cutting it down. In the end, I had a book titled Cinco deMayo. Still no takers on a publishing deal. I spent some money, paid a publisher to publish it so I could sell it on Amazon.
By this time, they had a platform for ebooks.
After several years with no sales, I worked a little with the story, renamed it, and put it on Kindle. Today it is known as Border War.
