Thousands of people across America and the world have been praying for the United States election. Praying that integrity and truth prevail.
Now, a few days into the new administration, there is a question heard over and over. Where do we go from here?
One Take
The pandemic and lockdown of 2020 gave me extra time to do things I had not planned. I used some of that time to read three of Jonathan Cahn’s books.
The subject of each book is the history of God’s actions in America. Rabbi Cahn did well to explain the history of Israel, scripture, and the words of the prophets. He effectively connected it to events in contemporary America.
In view of Cahn’s writing, it is not difficult to see that America is likely under judgment from God. The weight of our national sin seemed all but certain to cause America to fall. The fall would usher in an authoritarian government. Evil would seize control. Freedom and liberty would become casualties.
II Chronicles 7:14
The event known as The Return was an attempt to call the nation to repentance. Millions of people showed up at the Capitol mall or attended online that September day. They prayed, worshiped, and marched.
The scriptural context of the event was II Chronicles 7:14 ’if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.’ (NKJV)
How do we recognize true repentance? How does one humble themselves? What is meant by ‘seek my face’? When do we know if, as a nation, we have turned from our wicked ways?
The Return was a powerful statement. A demonstration of God’s people gathering for truth and righteousness. The attendees could certainly be described as Christians. They worshiped, prayed, sang, and marched.
It remained unclear however if real national repentance was expressed. Those attending certainly expressed their deep faith in God, but it was not clear they were prepared to accept responsibility.
The birth pangs of revival seemed not to follow.
The question that I have, and have heard raised elsewhere is, did we repent? I say that because I am one. I am one who, at that time, had not accepted my role.
Make no mistake. I’m a Christian and I’m adamantly pro-life. But what have I done about it? How have I interceded for the life of the unborn? The unvarnished truth is, I have done little to change the hearts of anyone. I have been too busy with life.
What About The Election?
I believe that Donald Trump won the election. He did so in what can arguably be called a ‘red wave.’ What happened in the early hours of November 4th was a well planned theft. An election was stolen with a shocking number of supporting actors to pull it off.
Corruption is deep. The swamp of Washington extends to state governors and beyond. It was a rigged election and they got away with it.
The ‘how’ may be rooted in providence. Like Israel fell to Babylon for their great sin, America has fallen for the same reason.
How can that be?
Listening to leaders in the body of Christ tells me that there are many Christian pastors and leaders unwilling to accept responsibility for the sins of the nation. Most take a biblical stance on issues such as abortion, yet remain silent. (Just as I had)
This weekend it was reported that a church was ‘kicked out’ of their denomination because the pastor spoke out about possible fraud in the election. Many Christians refuse to take part in anything political.
How many are there who have been like me? How many have expressed the disapproval of the sin of our nation but have done little else? I have excuses. I have reasons for not standing over the past 30 years. I was wrong. I am convinced there are millions like me.
Had it not been for the pandemic allowing me time to read Jonathan Cahn’s books, I would have never considered that God would judge America. That the sin of the republic would cause us to be handed over to a government that represents the ‘powers, the principalities, the rulers of the darkness of this world.’
There Is Hope
All is not lost. I believe God would not choose to reward a prolonged victory to the ‘powers of darkness’.
Now is the time for every believer to come to God and repent for not acting. Repent for turning a blind eye to the sins of our nation. Repent for accepting the concept of open-mindedness.
Regardless of what contemporary society may claim, the sins of abortion, sexual immorality, corruption in government, out of control spending by the government are all abominations to God.
America has raised up altars to the gods of convenience, gluttony, and greed. Repent America, before God’s judgments extend to the second and third generation.
I will have more to say on this in the following days.
