Who have you lost this year? Whose death turned your life upside down? A parent, sibling, child, friend, boss, other relatives? They are all difficult moments. Times of weeping. Great grief that consumes nearly all of one’s being.
A good guess says that your loss was not of great significance to others. There was likely no mention on the news. Only an obituary, perhaps written by you, was in the daily paper. Flags were not lowered. You suffered a loss. Who noticed?
Do you remember the story? Of course you do. Nearly everyone heard it as a child. Most remember.
Hollywood used it. Without Exodus 14, Charlton Heston would have never climbed the mountain, stood in the cleft of the rock so God could pass before him.
Without Exodus 14 Moses would have never received the Ten Commandments of God.
As the nation races towards the election, the question persists. Is the country going to be lost? Or, is the government going to prevail as a republic? The one founded more than two hundred and forty years ago?
The nation was founded on the principles of God. The creator blessed the nation with a constitution and leaders ready to build a more perfect union.
Not always perfect, the effort to make an enduring republic was overwhelming. It, the great experiment, began in 1776 and has lasted longer than any form of government. Of all the nations of the world, only the United States has had the same government for more than two centuries.
