Do you remember the story? Of course you do. Nearly everyone heard it as a child. Most remember.
Hollywood used it. Without Exodus 14, Charlton Heston would have never climbed the mountain, stood in the cleft of the rock so God could pass before him.
Without Exodus 14 Moses would have never received the Ten Commandments of God.
Had he not received those tablets written in stone, the Mayflower would have never sailed from Europe.
Without the Mayflower, the founding fathers of America would have been raised on the eastern shore of the Atlantic. There would have been no America.
Certainly, there would be no America as we know it today. There would be no Republic founded on the solid rock on which to stand. The one who carved those tablets centuries earlier.
So What Does It Mean For 2020?
What does it mean for a nation that seems to not know what it wants?
In Exodus 14: 1-4 we see that the fleeing Israelites are wandering, hopelessly lost. They don’t know what to do. They have been freed from slavery in Egypt, yet they thought to return when only a little trouble came.
Did they really believe that being free was a bad thing? Did they think that bondage was easier? They were afraid. But God used their fear.
God used the appearance of the Israelites wandering, of being confused, to destroy Pharoh and his army, an enemy of God.
Only God could do it, and only God received the Glory.
You know the story. God parted the Red Sea and the Israelites escaped across dry land to freedom. Free of Pharoh and his chains.
It didn’t end there, however. When the army of Egypt followed into the parted waters, the sea flowed back and the army of Pharoh was destroyed.
It took a miracle only God could perform. It took the hand of God to save the people of Israel from certain destruction.
In the year 2020, everything has been turned upside down. A plague, civil unrest, the burning of cities. Murder, mayhem, and all manner of violence is rampant in the land. America seems to be wandering, confused, not sure what she wants.
Who wants any of it? Let it all stop. Whatever the price, we’ll pay it. Even if the price is our freedom.
Maybe there is something to the Exodus story. Maybe there are some similarities.
Maybe the only hope America has, to avoid complete destruction, rests in the same God who rescued the Israelites thousands of years ago.
God can save America. The question we have may be the same question the Israelites had as they stood at the shore of the Red Sea with an army closing in.
Does He want to? Why should He?
Why should God rescue America? Why would a God of righteousness have anything to do with America? A nation He blessed for so long, has now turned away to serve other gods?
God has been removed from all of society. The last straw may have come in the pandemic. The government closed the churches.
For those who want their country back, the last, only hope is to turn back to God. Come back. Return to our first love. The rock of our foundation. The God who showed the way through the parted waters.
Come back, return to God.
How? Prayer is one weapon believers have that can not be taken away. Pray that God will raise up leaders who will “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”
Then vote. It is reported that 56 million believers did not vote in the last election. How can that be?
When believers stand quiet, evil gets its way. “When good people do nothing…”
With God, All things are possible.
