I was having a conversation. We were talking about my book, Joyce – A Spiritual Warfare Novel. I was asked, “What is spiritual warfare?”
We continued our conversation. I answered the question. I explained what I thought it to be.
The Question Stuck With Me.
If one person is asking, who else wants to know. Who else is asking, “What is spiritual warfare?” Frankly, when I write stories, I assume everyone knows. I sort of take it for granted. Perhaps because it is familiar to me, I assume it is to others as well.
Spiritual warfare can be a weighty subject. I am not an expert. I’m not trained in scripture. I am not a preacher. I believe in the Bible. I believe what God has to say through His Apostle and Prophets. I believe there is good and evil. I believe there are angels and demons. I believe they go to war against one another.
Spiritual warfare is those moments when there is a fight between the two forces. A battle occurs.
I believe that the battles are most often fought in what is known as the second heaven. It is a spiritual realm. We know it is real because the Apostle Paul spoke of going to the third heaven. (2 Corinthians 12:2) If there is a third, there has to be a second. (And a first)
“Where Is That?”
In simple terms, there are three heavens. The first is the earthly realm. It includes the sky. It includes the space where the stars are found.
The third heaven is the realm where the throne of God is located. It is Heaven. It is the place where Jesus sits at the right hand of God forever making intercession for the believers. It is where nearly everyone hopes they end up when they die.
The second heaven is the space between the first and third. It is a spiritual realm. It is not a place you will see with a telescope.
It’s the place where the wars of angels and demons are waged. Not exclusively, but this is the place. One scriptural proof is found in Daniel 10. There we see that angels and demons fight. Daniel waited three full weeks for God to answer his prayer. Why? The messenger of God had to fight his way through from the third heaven to the first heaven.
Daniel 10:13
The angel dispatched to answer Daniel was delayed three weeks fighting the demon known as the prince of Persia. Only when Michael the archangel showed up was the messenger angel of God allowed to reach Daniel.
Angels of heaven, also known as the Hosts of Heaven travel via portals between the heavens. Sounds odd, perhaps a sort of science-fiction bent, put it’s a spiritual truth.
Evil Spirits Are Real.
Their focus or goal is to capture the souls of men. We can read in Revelation 18: 12-14 that the souls of men are a commodity of Satan.
The stories I write are an attempt to draw attention to the seriousness of Satan and his minions in the earth. When we understand Satan is real, and his cadre of demons are real, we can begin to understand the nature of evil. We can stand against it. We can learn how to defend ourselves.
Evil is in the world. The darkness we see daily is the presence of the demonic. It is the driving force behind the truly wicked things we see.
I could give you a long list of the sins of man. Sins far beyond the natural flesh. I’m not talking about Baptists that drink, or Methodist that cuss.
You hear it all the time. “How could anyone do that?”
The answer is simple. It is the wiles of the devil. (Eph 6:11)
Read Ephesians 6:12
‘For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (NKJV)
Spiritual warfare is real. There is a titanic battle in the heavenliness pitting good against evil for the rule of Earth. Believers know that God wins. We need only read Revelation to know how it ends.
It is the years, even centuries to come that are at stake. We face the powers of darkness daily.
My stories draw attention to that wickedness and how the people of earth can respond. What we, as mere mortals, must do to protect ourselves from the devil and his minions.
Yes, there is a devil. He was once called Lucifer. His name is now Satan. He is the fallen archangel that challenged God before man was on the earth. He was charged with sedition and cast out of heaven along with a third of the angels. Lucifer is identified in Isaiah 14:12-14
I have been told my stories are scary. I trust that is true. The fight against good and evil is serious business. It will get scary. God tells us to fear not. Don’t be afraid. Read the stories. Find a sense of what you may have already suspected. Knowing is a healthy thing.
